The Montessori approach to the child under age three rests on the key principle of "Help me to help myself."
This is accomplished through Practical Life exercises, such as dish washing, plant watering, and dressing frames. These help to enable the child to care for himself and his surroundings, thus leading to independence. It is accomplished through manual work which is both satisfying and productive. The child begins to experience concentration and takes great pleasure in mastering the various skills.
Daily involvement of group snack is a social activity, which involves food preparation, cooperation, and courtesy.
Language activities such as picture cards and other language activities help build vocabulary and grammar skills.
Music, rhythm, and movement exercises are part of the ongoing joy of this first school experience.
